# about

From unexpected beginnings

In 2016, I transitioned out of Youth Work by enrolling in a Masters of Analytics at RMIT, while starting a gig as a "roaming data consultant" at Monash University. After three years at Monash, I decided to give freelancing a try — and on my first day as an independent, my old boss called with a project she said only I would be able to handle. And thus Tadge Analytics was born.

Since then I've worked with approximately 75 clients across health, insurance, banking, logistics, hospitality, retail and more. I've spent years learning the intricacies of the R programming language, what makes business reporting successful, and how to ensure you're getting true value for money. Imparting data knowledge and helping SMEs grow are my passions.

Integrity

I take exceptional care with your data and aim for the most suitable, cost-effective solution. If something's outside my wheelhouse, I'll help you find the right person.

Cost-effective

Analytics projects have a high rate of running over time and budget. I'll always make a plan if our project is looking risky, so it delivers what's needed on time.

Incremental

Slow and steady at first — sometimes a feasibility analysis is the best place to start. I'm always open to an hourly arrangement while we figure out what state your data is in.

Experience

Years of diverse industries, tools, datasets and personalities have taught me to see project blockers ahead of time — and deliver projects with concrete value.

Reliable reporting, set up by affordable increments

End-to-end solutions: from data integration and Excel all the way through to advanced predictive modelling. Robust, well-documented and set up for the long term — and I happily educate as I go.

Dashboards & Reporting

Tableau and Power BI dashboards that actually get used. We'll have the tough conversations early about how what we're building will genuinely benefit stakeholders — then create, test and iterate. Automated PDF delivery, alerts, subscriptions and drill-down auditability included.

Data Flow Automation

Getting the necessary data organised is often its own task. I automate data transfer and organisation using R, with a preference for GCP's BigQuery as the database. Where APIs are involved, I can code up something that runs on a regular schedule — or lean on tools like FiveTran and StitchData where they fit.

svc_03

Predictive Modelling

Machine learning without the buzzwords. Real predictive modelling projects are rarer than the hype suggests — you need a high-frequency decision to optimise and the right sort of data. I've placed 2nd in an international hackathon and regularly compete on Kaggle. Let's chat about whether your idea has legs.

svc_04

Excel

Yes, Excel — it's been around forever, for a reason. Many Excel-based processes can be dramatically improved with best practices: Tables and PowerQuery can save heaps of time, adding automation and improving accuracy along the way.

Also on offer: Tableau & Power BI training in Melbourne and online — practical, customised sessions built on real (dummy-data) scenarios from years of consulting, so your team builds lasting analytical capability.

# case studies

Clients I have helped

US-based ticket reseller

Working together since early 2022. Built a series of Tableau dashboards for detecting "hot tickets" (price rising, availability falling) and managing current holdings — with R as the data-wrangling back end and GCP BigQuery as the warehouse. Took over and rebuilt an inherited codebase, and significantly reduced their GCP costs by simplifying the infrastructure.

→ improved buying-option discovery · better holdings tracking · predictive insight into how tickets sell as event dates approach

Wettenhalls

Geelong-based trucking company. Produced Power BI dashboards showcasing OH&S incident frequency and fleet-upgrade progress, replacing manual data-preparation processes. A tricky component was automating the incident-rate denominator (kilometres travelled) — freeing a senior manager from that manual task.

→ improved OH&S incident tracking · reduced manual data preparation

Wellbeing365

Melbourne-based chiropractic practices. Used R to pull data from their patient management system via its API, and produced interactive Tableau dashboards giving executives and management a broad range of timely analyses across individual practices and practitioners.

→ powerful, timely analysis · minimal overhead to keep updated
# what clients say
"I utilised Julian as a BI developer on two occasions. Julian was exceptionally quick to grasp our business needs, designed a responsive and interactive dashboard, worked with our in-house designer and was able to incorporate changes with fast turnarounds."

Frequently asked

What services do you offer?

Primarily Business Intelligence reporting solutions — with a preference for Tableau, but not fixed on it. Whatever we go with (maybe an R-generated PDF, maybe Power BI), getting set up is done without huge financial commitments. Some data-wrangling / pipeline automation is usually required, and predictive modelling is an aligned (but more niche) service I also offer.

What tools do you use?

I prefer Tableau, R and Google Cloud Platform — but also do Power BI. FiveTran and StitchData are handy "data-movement" tools I reach for when they fit.

Can you automate reporting processes?

Yes — that's my bread and butter. Data can usually be extracted and transformed automatically. Where a human in the loop is required, I make their manual steps as pain-free as possible.

Which industries do you work with?

Health, insurance, banking, logistics, hospitality, retail and more. There's a lot of crossover in getting good reporting set up. And yes — I love helping startups bootstrap their tech stack the right way.

Do you provide ongoing support?

Yes. Some processes need ongoing monitoring; for others I can train your staff. Always willing to come back to add features you've discovered you need.

How can we get started?

I'm always happy to talk to new data-people. First engagements should usually be about setting a realistic goal or scoping out a problem — to build trust and understanding.
