Real predictive modelling projects (I’ve found) are actually quite rare in business. You need a high-frequency operation or decision that you’re looking optimise and you also need “the right sort of data”.

This is always the big disappointment because “Data Science” is what most of us got trainined in at University. I’ve also personlly come 2nd in an international hackathon and often compete in Kaggle competitions.
