Experience

Whether you already have your Tableau platform set up or you are needing your first-ever dashboard (and assistance with implementation), I’ve had extensive experience across a diverse set of industries, including retail, logistics, health and education.

I’ve found that successful Tableau deployments require more than just technical expertise – they need a deep understanding of business processes and user behaviour.

Facilitating free-flowing chats between the developer, data-engineering and the business-user is a key component to a great project. Collaboration is so essential to ensuring solutions will be practical and immediately valueable.

Once we’ve got a successful project on the board, hopefully you will start seeing more and more opportunities for continuing on your analytics journey and Tableau is a great vehicle to be using for that journey.

Development & Integration

In addition to just “building dashboards”, I also take care to streamline and automate your analytical processes. I do this via:

1. Tableau’s REST API / Subscriptions / Alerts

These aspects of Tableau are much under-utilised. We can automate many aspects of Tableau using the API. Tasks like having reports delivered directly to your inbox can be done with Subscriptions. You can also set up intelligent Alerts so that, when key metrics hit critical thresholds, you are notified.

 2. Maintaining Various Groups / Projects

I also manage and maintain projects and user groups and permissions, to ensure appropriate access for the right people.

3. Setting Data Refresh Schedules

I also configure and monitor data refreshes, so that dashboards are kept  up-to-date.

Performance Optimization & Data Integration

Slow dashboards frustrate users. No matter how important the data is, if people have to wait too long to see it, they simply won’t bother.

Whether due to large datasets, inefficient calculations, or slow data connections, I specialize in identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, optimizing data source connections, and ensuring snappy and responsive interactions.

Expert Tableau Desktop Training in Melbourne

I also provide trainnig for Tableau in Melbourne (as well as online), empowering your team to become more self-sufficient with the tool.

In my years of experience, I have come across numerous tricky data situations; and being able to share these (with dummy data) with your team, will build their experience and confidence for when they encountering their own novel challenges.

Training can be customised for busy professionals who need practical skills they can apply immediately. Participants don’t just learn how to create complex visualizations, they also learn how to extract the true requirements from stakeholders and communicate the key insights.

This training will create more confident developers (whether they are budding analysts or more experienced workers looking to expand into this area) and this will add lasting analytical capability to your organisation.

And More...

I also offer Power BI dashboards and training.

The prevalence and importance of Power BI cannot be denied. In my view it is the less user-friendly tool to develop in, however, it has sored in popover the years I have accrued too much experience with it for me not to offer it as a service.

My multi-platform experience allows me to make informed recommendations about when to use Tableau versus other analytical tools, ensuring that the best match for your circumstances.

Why Tableau and Not Power BI?

In my view, the main difference between Power BI and Tableau, simply comes down to development complexity.

Development hours are where most of your costs will be (rather than on licensing fees -which are largely comparable for SME’s atleast).

The question is which tool will result in your developers’ encountering “a finicky situation” which will end up chewing up whole heap of hours. It is always difficult to predict where these might happen on any given project. Plus, the developers skill level is another key factor (usually there are clever work-arounds that an experienced developer will know about).

From gut-feel, Power BI’s DAX calculations can easily chew up multiple hours and Tableau is simply “snappier” and more pleasant application to develop in.

Seamless Implementation & System Integration

The introduction of a new dashboard can be tricky.

Dashboards can allow for so much (eg, “self-service analytics” (to get required data), which might previously have been a process of submitting data request tickets) but they can also be frustrating and awkward for new users to know how to use (and, most importantly, trust).

I like to take a “staggard approach”, with a small focus group to work out any challenges end-users might be facing. This allows us to appropriately figure out what tips users will need to know.

Taking this sort of approach also helps with ensuring security / access and, also, for working out a system for incorporating user-suggested changes into the deliverable.

Transform Your Data Analytics Capability

From initial consultation through to implementation, training, and ongoing optimization, hopefully the paragraphs above have given you a sense of my comprehensive approach towards ensuring that you get the maximum return from your investment into Tableau’s Automated Reporting.
